Matt Hiefield (MAT) has 25 years of experience teaching high school Social Studies and is currently a digital curator for the Beaverton School District. He serves on the District Equity Team and is passionate about digital divide issues and how the lack of home broadband internet access affects both teaching and learning. He currently serves as an ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) Digital Equity PLN Leader, an ISTE Digital Equity PLN Editor, and as a CoSN (Consortium of School Networking) Digital Equity Advisory Council Member. He also facilitates Latino Parent Technology Nights in an effort to address the digital use divide. Matt is on the leadership team for his district’s large scale hotspot implementation project and is also a member of Beaverton’s team that won CoSN’s 2018 National Award for Digital Equity Work. Matt Hiefield serves as the facilitator of the District’s Digital Equity Team and is passionate about digital divide and mobile learning issues. He led the grant team that was awarded a Sprint 1 million 5 year district hotspot program and helped plan the Middle School Kajeet hotspot program. He facilitates Latino Parent Technology Nights in an effort to address the digital use divide. He is piloting parent technology outreach nights in a high needs apartment complex and is co-planning parent technology nights one of Beaverton’s higher risk schools. To support mobile learning at its best, Matt works to make sure that all students and their families can fully participate.
